Homestead officials approved a selection with bowling magnate Don Carter that will allow for the borough-owned bowling alley to be put up for sale.
Under the terms of an compatibility approved last week, Homestead will pay Don and Paula Carter $90,000 to agree upon a lawsuit brought by the Carters to pay off a unimportant loan on the property.
The city foreclosed on the Homestead Bowling Center complex, 111 S. Homestead Blvd., last year, after the former proprietor, Herbie Yamamura, filed for bankruptcy. Homestead had owned the alight on which the bowling center is located.
But the Carters -- Yamamura's one-span business partners -- wanted the town to pay off a $1.5 million construction allowance Yamamura had taken on the property.
The diocese countersued.
During closed-door sessions, congregation members, along with city attorneys, worked out the terms of the camp. The council approved that settlement at its April 21 congregation, without discussion.
''When we were negotiating, our attorneys told us we were in a very weather-beaten position, that our maximum exposure in terms of accountability should not be more than $100,000,'' said Homestead Diocese Manager Mike Shehadeh.
By settling with the Carters, the lawsuits will go away. The Carters will not get any scratch from the sale of the property.
The city is now preparing to stock the Bowling Center complex, which also includes a shuttered sports bar and a still-extend floor and carpet shop. Preferably of putting the property out to bid, the city will invite interested buyers to round for its purchase.
